NFL: Unexpected Performances Week 3

Posted: September 28, 2011 in Uncategorized

Week 3 is done and I am glad to say Cam Newton got his first NFL win.  The Lions continue to succeed with Stafford staying heathly and improve Detroit to 3-0.  An odd performance I must point out was done by Tom Brady.  Brady threw four interceptions in one game.  Just a year ago he threw four all seasons.

Speaking of Brady, his Patriots were apart of a stunning upset when they lost to the Buffalo Bills.  The Bills, before this game, have not beaten the Patriots in fifteen atempts.  That changed Sunday when the Bills were down 21-0 and came back won 34-31.  Bills QB Ryan Fitzpatrick threw 369 yards and 2 touchdowns.  Bills topped off this victory with Rian Lindell field goal as time expired.  The Bills improved to 3-0 and lead the AFC East

The New York Jets were upset by the Oaklandn Raiders.  The Jets are looked as for having a strong defense that can stop that run.  Well McFadden ran all over that defense Sunday carring the ball 19 times and rushing for 171 yards.  The Raiders improved to 2-1 and are tied for first with the Chargers.

Baltimore Raven’s receiver, Torrey Smith had five receptions for 152 yards and three touchdowns.  Smith is a rookie and his first catch was a touchdown.  Now I think this game was a one time performance from him but it was surprising.  He help the Ravens to a record of 2-1 and are in a three way tie for first place in the AFC North with the Browns and Steelers.

Week 3 is done.  Hopefully teams like the Bills and Raiders continue to shock the NFL with stunning wins.   While teams like the Patriots and Jets try to get on the right path.

NFL: Unexpected Performances Week 2

Week two of the NFL is in the books. Surprisingly the Washington Redskins are 2-0 and in first place of the NFC East while the Buffalo Bills are 2-0 and in a three way tie for first with the New England Patriots and the New York Jets.

Cam Newton had another phenomenal game. He threw for 432 yard and one touchdown. He threw three interceptions but when you are throwing 46 passing you are bound to throw some. Unfortunatley Cam could not secure the win but it will only be a matter of time. He will go up against Jacksonville next week in Carolina. Hopefully with the home field advantage he can gain that first NFL career victory. Also he is the second in passing yards with 854 yards and 63% of his passes completed. Hard to believe he is a rookie.

Newton and Rodgers shake hands after the game

Matt Stafford and the Detroit Lions. People have said if Stafford stays healthy the Lions can be a contending team. Their 48-3 victory against the Tampa Bay Bucs helps support that theory. Stafford had threw 4 touchdowns in that game and close to 300 yards to lead the Lions to a 2-0 record. The defense did its part with having three interceptions, two fumbles, and two sacks.

Week 2 is done. Cam has done a good job on keeping his critics quiet while the Detroit Lions prove why they will be the comeback team of the 2011 season.

NFL: Unexpected Performances Week 1

With week one of the NFL in the books we had a couple of surprise performances. Tom Brady throwing 517 yards wasn’t that impressive to me just because he is Tom Brady. He is in the top Five quarterbacks in the league in my opinion.

There were two quarterbacks who did happen to catch my attention in week one of the NFL season opener. Chad Henne of the Miami Dolphins. Henne threw for 416 yards and two touchdowns. Henne was put on the hot seat for this season. This game could have been a fluke or maybe he is starting to get it together.

Cam “The Man” Newton. Number one overall pick in the 2011 NFL Draft from Auburn University selected by the Carolina Panthers. People have had mixed feelings about Cam Newton having success in the NFL. Same say he will, same say he won’t. I want to see Cam succeed. I want him to have a better career than Tim Tebow and with his week one performance against the Arizona Cardinals, he just might if he can keep it up. Newton threw for 422 yards and two touchdown. In addition to rushing foro 18 yards off 8 attempts and one touchdown. No one expected him to put on a show like this. One of my friends doesn’t think Cam will do that well in the NFL. I texted him about Newton’s performance and his reaction was “damn!!!!!

Last but not least the whole Pittsburgh Steelers team playing very poorly was a little bit of unexpected. Whenever the Ravens and Steelers clash you know you are going to be in for a good game. That didn’t seem to be the case on Sunday. Baltimore went in there and showed Pittsburgh who was the better team. The Steelers committed 7 turnovers. That’s odd coming from the runnerups from the Super Bowl. Roethlisberger threw 3 interceptions in one game. In 2010 he only threw 5 interceptions. Raven’s quarterback Joe Flacco picked apart that defense, only throwing 224 yards and 3 touchdowns and no interceptions or fumbles. Running back Ray Rice for the Raven ran for 107 yards, one rushing touchdown, and caught four passes for 42 yards.

Now this is just week one of the 2011 NFL Season. With Henne stepping up to the Steelers taking a beating and Cam Newton setting a rookie debut record at quarterback, you can tell this season will be an exciting one.
