NFL: Unexpected Performances Week 1

Posted: September 14, 2011 in Uncategorized

With week one of the NFL in the books we had a couple of surprise performances. Tom Brady throwing 517 yards wasn’t that impressive to me just because he is Tom Brady. He is in the top Five quarterbacks in the league in my opinion.

There were two quarterbacks who did happen to catch my attention in week one of the NFL season opener. Chad Henne of the Miami Dolphins. Henne threw for 416 yards and two touchdowns. Henne was put on the hot seat for this season. This game could have been a fluke or maybe he is starting to get it together.

Cam “The Man” Newton. Number one overall pick in the 2011 NFL Draft from Auburn University selected by the Carolina Panthers. People have had mixed feelings about Cam Newton having success in the NFL. Same say he will, same say he won’t. I want to see Cam succeed. I want him to have a better career than Tim Tebow and with his week one performance against the Arizona Cardinals, he just might if he can keep it up. Newton threw for 422 yards and two touchdown. In addition to rushing foro 18 yards off 8 attempts and one touchdown. No one expected him to put on a show like this. One of my friends doesn’t think Cam will do that well in the NFL. I texted him about Newton’s performance and his reaction was “damn!!!!!

Cam Newton jumps to score touchdown for the panthers

Last but not least the whole Pittsburgh Steelers team playing very poorly was a little bit of unexpected. Whenever the Ravens and Steelers clash you know you are going to be in for a good game. That didn’t seem to be the case on Sunday. Baltimore went in there and showed Pittsburgh who was the better team. The Steelers committed 7 turnovers. That’s odd coming from the runnerups from the Super Bowl. Roethlisberger threw 3 interceptions in one game. In 2010 he only threw 5 interceptions. Raven’s quarterback Joe Flacco picked apart that defense, only throwing 224 yards and 3 touchdowns and no interceptions or fumbles. Running back Ray Rice for the Raven ran for 107 yards, one rushing touchdown, and caught four passes for 42 yards.

Now this is just week one of the 2011 NFL Season. With Henne stepping up to the Steelers taking a beating and Cam Newton setting a rookie debut record at quarterback, you can tell this season will be an exciting one.

  1. Eric Frank says:

Do not forget about the Buffalo Bills they killed a team that was and still probably will be good in Kansas City. This seems like the begining a year for a lot of good quarterbacking for the next 10 years! It almost reminds of the 80’s with Moon, Kelly, Montana, Elway, Kosar, Cunningham, Everett, Flutie, McMahon, and the list goes on and every year those quarterbacks that all had a chance to win the Super Bowl!
